There is also some confusion between sympathy and funeral flowers.
Funeral flowers are sent to the funeral home to honour or remember the deceased. Funeral
flowers should always be addressed to the funeral parlour with the details of the
deceased and their funeral so that the funeral home knows where the flowers need to
go.

Funeral flowers can also be taken to the grave - however, this tends to be more for family
members. Some families will request no flowers, which should be respected.

Sympathy flowers are different. These are the flowers that you send to your friend or relative
who is grieving to remind them that you are there for them and thinking of them in their time
of grief. Flowers represent community support and are also seen as recognition of a life that
has been lived. It is thought that sending flowers for grief dates back as far as the 18th
Century when flowers were first sent as a way of expressing feelings.
